Corum Named President-Elect of Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives
01/05/2009

Bill Corum
Ron Sheets

J. William (Bill) Corum has been named President-Elect and Chief Operating Officer of the Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (KAEC) and United Utility Supply Cooperative, Inc. (UUS).

Corum was named to the leadership posts by the unanimous votes of both the KAEC and UUS boards of directors during recent meetings at the organizations'
shared headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky.

As president-elect and COO, Corum will oversee KAEC's electric transformer manufacturing operations and the association’s electric utility safety and loss prevention services. Corum will also direct the electric utility supply marketing operations of UUS and the human resources function of both organizations.

Corum’s tenure as president-elect and COO will last for one year as he works with the organizations’ president, Ron Sheets. Sheets, who has led the organizations for 27 years, will retire in January of 2010. At that time, Corum will become president of KAEC and UUS.

“Ron Sheets has done an outstanding job during his term as our president,” said Glenn Cox, KAEC Chairman, and Ed Short, UUS chairman, in a joint statement. “Ron is known nationwide throughout the rural electric program as a man of wisdom and integrity. With 37 years of experience—including seven working with Ron, Bill Corum is uniquely qualified to lead our organizations to continued success.”

A 37-year veteran of the electric utility industry, Corum brings a wealth of experience to the co-ops. For the past seven years, Corum was KAECís vice president of operations. Prior to joining KAEC in 2002, Corum was employed by Meade County RECC for 30 years—first as vice president of member services and later as vice president of operations and engineering.

In addition to his electric utility work, Corum has led a number of local, regional, and statewide civic and governmental groups. He is the past chairman of both the Lincoln Trail Area Development District and the Brandenburg/Meade County Industrial Development Authority. He is also the past president of the Kentucky 4-H Foundation and the Kentucky 4-H Leaders Council.

Corum holds a bachelor’s degree from Campbellsville University. He resides in Brandenburg, Kentucky, with his wife Pamela. The Corums have two grown children and three grandchildren.
