4th Kentucky Electric Co-op Linemen Rodeo A Big Success
08/25/2008

Three Kentucky electric co-op linemen present the flags at this year's rodeo.

On July 25 another successful Kentucky Linemens' Rodeo concluded. This year's rodeo was held in Somerset, KY and almost 70 linemen from 13 Kentucky electric cooperatives competed.

The day before the rodeo, Somerset's Center for Rural Development hosted a large indoor exhibit with various vendors and for rodeo registration.

Congratulations are in order for Licking Valley RECC—their team was the overall winner of the rodeo.

The rodeo, which began in 2005, is a day-long happening where linemen from across Kentucky's electric cooperative systems compete in such events as Cross Arm Relocation, Hurtman Rescue, and Insulator Change-out. The rodeo started as part of a state effort to make lineworker safety a top priority for electric co-op utility employees in Kentucky. While the event is a competition, the rodeo tests line workers’ skills and safety practices—scoring rewards safety over speed.
